Bromley 1-1 Braintree

BROMLEY extended their unbeaten run to five games in a hard-fought home draw with a Braintree Town side lying fourth in the table going into the match.

In a very even and entertaining contest the two sides were evenly matched and chances on goal were few and far between. The first came on 13 minutes when Ryan Hall’s 25-yarder was deflected for a corner, but the visitors opened the scoring 60 seconds later with their first attack. Donal O’Sullivan was slow to clear his lines and had to concede a corner, from which Sean Marks rose unchallenged at the near post to glance a header into the roof of the net.

Hall shot wide from 30 yards and Marcus Cassius outpaced his marker to send a fierce shot on the turn just wide of the far post, before Marks flashed a fierce shot across the face of the Bromley goal as half-time approached,.

Bromley were back on terms within a minute of the restart when Harrison Dunk’s cross-cum-shot deceived goalkeeper Nicky Morgan and drifted over his head into the far top corner of the net off the inside of the post.

Mark Corneille had a shot well saved a few minutes later, before Aaron Dalhouse headed a deep corner into the ground only for it to bounce up and over the bar.

Morgan made another good save from substitute Ashley Carew and O’Sullivan’s header from Hall’s long cross bounced off the top of the crossbar with the goalkeeper stranded as Bromley looked to secure all three points.

However, Braintree survived the pressure and Adam Bailey-Dennis headed wide from six yards, before Bromley goalkeeper Gareth I Williams pushed a rasping drive from Mark Jones onto the crossbar. Lee Roache then put the rebound straight into the arms of the custodian.

All in all, a share of the spoils was a fair result as neither side deserved to lose or take all three points.
