Although safe from relegation, Welling United did not give their supporters much joy in their last home game of the season.

All in all it was a pretty ordinary game until an eventful end in which Hampton and Richmond Borough sneaked the three points.

Alex Cathline had the first chance when he used his strength to cut inside and shoot but Sam Howes beat out his effort at the cost of a corner.

Then, at the other end, Duncan Culley created a chance for himself but was off target from a tight angle.

When Welling conceded a free kick in a dangerous area they were relieved when Culley fired it high and wide.

Rhys Murrell-Williamson put in an awkward cross slightly behind Cathline but his first touch was superb allowing him to spin and fire just wide with Howes rooted to the spot.

Rickie Hayles was then unable to get high enough to redirect a Danny Waldren free kick towards goal as Welling enjoyed a good spell.

However, Hampton came back and Culley was sent clear only to be thwarted by a great save from Chris Lewington.

Former Wing Leon Soloman fizzed a drive from thirty yards just over as half time approached.

Early in the second period Culley shot on the turn but Lewington was in the right position to block with his legs.

Dan Walker fired an effort high and wide for Welling before another quiet period ended with Lewington punching a Sam Gallagher free kick over.

Joe Hicks headed off target for Hampton then Walker headed over from a Waldren free kick for Welling.

Murrell-Williamson broke for Welling and found Walker but his effort was deflected wide.

Lewington made a good save from Christian Jolley before Hampton broke the deadlock. A goalmouth scramble in which Lewington save twice, ended when substitute Sliven Rivic headed home from a position that looked suspiciously offside.

Waldren had a free kick saved before Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick missed two chances to put the game to bed.

His first was a drive that went just over but his second was a side footer wide that he should have buried from Jolley's pull back.

It looked like a costly miss when Murrell-Williamson put away an inch perfect free kick with two minutes to go but Welling were unable to hold on to their point when Rivic got on the end of a long punt forward to slide beyond Lewington into the back of the net.

Welling United: Lewington, Fish, Richards (Joseph-Dubois 87), Fuseini, Hayles, Martin, Walker (Slabber 84), Waldren, Cathline, Crawford (Marsh 68), Murrell-Williamson. Subs not used: Agu, Hatton.
