Wednesday evening sees a little bit of history as Cray Wanderers face Guernsey at home for the very first time.  Kick off at Hayes Lane is 7.45pm.

This brings a meeting of the oldest association football club in the Isthmian League (Cray Wanderers, 1860) against the youngest club in the league (Guernsey, 2011) and should be an occasion to savour.

Cray come into the game on the back of four straight league wins and have started to hit a real purple patch of form.  Particularly last Saturday when a very decent Carshalton Athletic side were beaten following a golden spell of attacking football either side of half time which produced four goals and moved Cray up into fifth place.  Danny Haynes has been in great form with four goals in his last two games whilst Brandon Scott has also added two goals in games against the Robins and looks razor sharp.  Defensively, the team played well as a unit on Saturday, reducing Carshalton to only a handful of openings whilst the midfield area played a blinder and was bristling with energy.  Right back has been a problem area for Cray due to injuries but Ben Mundele filled in immaculately there on Saturday and showed his predatory striker instincts when presented with a chance for the third goal which he took with some aplomb.  Also a big shout out to Jey Siva who has been excellent at left back and is a fine passer of the ball.

Cray’s opponents on Wednesday, Guernsey have struggled since the start of the season and are 21st in the league table after 12 games with 10 points but play with a lot of pride and Cray will need to maintain their good form to win the match.  The Green Lions are unbeaten at home but have struggled away with just one point on their travels and were beaten at South Park in the FA Trophy and 1-6 at Hastings United last Saturday, but Ross Allen is one of the leading scorers in the division with 8 goals and are a good footballing side.

The two teams met as recently as 17th August at Footes Lane and the game finished in as good a 0-0 draw as you’ll possibly ever see.

This has the makings of a very special evening and the potential of a match to compare alongside some very good games already played this season.

Admission prices on the night are £10.00 adults, £4.00 concessions/U16s and students on presentation of card.
