Christian Benteke wants to prove himself at Crystal Palace following a difficult spell with Liverpool.

The Belgium international signed for the Reds in the summer of 2015 after bagging 42 goals in 89 league games for Aston Villa.

But Benteke, 25, failed to establish himself in Merseyside and only scored three Premier League goals for Liverpool in 2016.

The talisman completed a £32m switch to Selhurst Park in August and opened his account for the Eagles in the 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Benteke insisted that, despite his lucrative fee, he has not felt pressure in south London.

He said: “Strikers are expensive these days but so are defenders.

“Do I feel pressure because of my fee? Nah. I just want to do well. I know I am able to do it.

“I just have to work hard, give 100 per cent and then I will be happy.”

Benteke, who has made 26 appearances for Belgium, combined with Wilfried Zaha to head Palace in front after 16 minutes.

Daniel Sanchez Ayala levelled affairs shortly before half-time, but Zaha punished a defensive error after the break to restore the Eagles advantage.

Benteke added: “I am here to score goals. I know my qualities and my weaknesses. I know how hard on my game I have to work. I also know my strengths.

“That is why I came to Crystal Palace because I know they have a good team and I want to prove myself again. I feel like I can score a lot of goals in this team.”
