Russell Slade has named Kevin Nugent as his assistant manager at Charlton.

Nugent, a former Swansea and Cardiff striker, was previously at Luton Town working as a first team coach.

The 47-year-old has a close relationship with Slade having worked together at Leyton Orient for four years.

Nugent told the Charlton website: "This is a fantastic club to join and I’m really looking forward to getting started.

"I’ve left another fantastic club but when the opportunity arose to join Charlton, a club with such history and tradition, I wanted to grab it with both hands.

"I’ve worked with Russell before and with the situation we find ourselves in at the moment I know that there is no-one better to try and take us back into the Championship."

Slade insisted he was "extremely pleased" to add Nugent to his coaching staff, saying: "It was important that we got the right man and we have managed to prise Kevin out of Luton, and that is extremely pleasing.

"I have worked with Kevin before, he knows what is required, he knows this level really well and between Kevin and Simon Clark I think we have two really capable coaches that will only help to make us a better team."
