Jurgen Klopp hopes to cash in on Liverpool striker Christian Benteke this summer but the asking price may deter interested duo Crystal Palace and West Ham.

The Belgian forward completed a £32.5m switch from Aston Villa to Liverpool last summer but has fallen down Klopp’s pecking order at Anfield.

Benteke only scored three Premier League goals for the Reds in 2016 and the Daily Mail say Klopp is willing to offload the talisman before the start of the new season.

Crystal Palace have emerged as the strong favourites to acquire Benteke’s signature but the Eagles saw an opening bid rejected by Liverpool.

And it is claimed a move could be scuppered by Liverpool’s insistence on recouping the money they spent on the ex-Genk star last year.

The paper say if Liverpool fail to lower their valuation of Benteke, who has also attracted attention from West Ham, the player could remain in Merseyside.

Palace and West Ham are both in the market for attacking reinforcements as they bid to improve on last season’s finishes in the top-flight.
