Welling United failed to give their supporters anything to cheer about as they signalled the end of their National League presence with another woeful performance.

Knowing that a win would keep them up, visitors Boreham Wood started in lively fashion and could easily have gone ahead in the opening minutes. From a corner, a Joe Devera header crashed back off the bar and a follow up was deflected onto the post. It then came out to Luke Howell, but he fired over from 12 yards against one of his former clubs.

Harry White then looked to be in behind the Welling defence and set himself up for a header but mistimed it and it went wide off his chest.

It looked as though Welling had weathered the storm after a quiet spell but Boreham Wood came back again and Michael McEntegart made a brilliant save to keep out White's effort.

Nortei Nortey headed off the line before the visitors broke the deadlock just after the half hour mark.

Having created chances of their own, Wood profited from a horrible Welling miscommunication. A long punt forward was headed past McEntegart and into his own net by Kevin Lokko.

James Russell then had to make his only save of the first half when Kadell Daniel whipped in a free kick that needed a touch from Victor Caicedo to beat the Boreham Wood keeper.

Delano Sam-Yorke should have done better when firing over when Welling were opened up again before Wood scored the crucial second.

Howell tricked his way through the Welling defence, played a one-two with White, and showed great composure when curling inside the far post.

Young striker, Luke Saggers, replaced Caicedo at the break but Welling continued to play as if the summer couldn't come soon enough.

McEntegart struggled to get any power on a punch out and White's follow up was cleared off the line by Michael Chambers.

More poor defending gifted Wood a third. Conor Clifford's deep corner was met almost unopposed at the far post by Clovis Kamdjo and he needed no second invitation to power home a header that gave McEntegart no chance.

After that, Boreham Wood were happy to keep things comfortable in midfield while Welling struggled to create anything.

George Porter tried his luck from 30 yards but fired well over to register Welling's first effort of the second half with just one minute remaining.

When the final whistle blew it signalled relief for Welling supporters who endured a torrid final month.
