The agent of Simon Makienok has reportedly admitted that the striker is searching for a new club with a return to Palermo unlikely.

The 25-year-old joined Charlton last summer on a one-year loan deal having struggled to feature for Serie A side Palermo.

Makienok impressed in his early appearances for the Addicks but has since fallen down the pecking order at the Valley.

The Denmark international is set to return to Italy at the end of the season, but his agent says they are in the process of finding a new club.

“The plan is that we must find a new club [for] Simon. But he is still contracted to Palermo, and we need to respect [that],” Michael Steengaard is quoted as saying by Danish outlet Bold.

“It has been a very difficult time for the club with firings and relegation.

“Seen in this light, Makienok [has] been an okay success if you measure on goals-per-minute.

“And it's normally easier to find a good club when you have played. We scan the market and it seems that Simon’s [future] is abroad.”

Makienok has scored five goals for Charlton this season and last found the back of the net in January during the 4-1 thrashing at Rotherham.
