Yannick Bolasie has said his FA Cup semi-final goal was better than Alan Pardew’s in 1990 – because it is in high definition.

The winger headed Palace into the lead at Wembley in just the sixth minute, in what was almost a carbon copy of Pardew’s goal 26 years ago.

And although Bolasie joked his goal will look better than the manager’s, he put the credit down to Palace’s assistant manager Keith Millen.

“It was very similar – mine is going to be better because it’s in HD!” Bolasie said.

“We covered all bases, and Keith Millen, the tactics man for the set plays, told me I can’t let anything run out the back and it’s dropped to me right on the goal line.

“I’m just happy I took the chance.”

Bolasie said he was rested for the league trip to Manchester United last week ahead of the semi-final in order to make sure he was in top condition.

And the 26-year-old believes the break allowed him to regain his sharpness, having only returned from injury at the end of February.

“The gaffer gave me a rest because he wanted me fresh for this game,” he added.

“To get off early doors only helps the confidence and I’m delighted to score, but more important was the win and getting into the final.

“I do get enough chances. The gaffer’s had me practicing finishing for ages but I just remember I’ve just come back from injury.

“When I came back I felt like I was flying then there was a standstill where I just thought ‘oh woah, I’m playing a lot of games here and probably need a rest’.

“The rest during the midweek did me well because I felt a little bit more on my toes, fresh, anticipating. So I’m happy.”

Bolasie also had special praise for team-mates Connor Wickham and Wilfried Zaha, admitting the trio were in top form.

“Wilf and Connor were electric, to be fair I thought everyone was. But Wilf, Connor and me – I thought yeah!” Bolasie said.

“Connor’s potential is huge. I can’t explain how much potential he has, he can be ridiculous. When I look at the size of him, how old he is, it’s frightening.”

Palace now have three Premier League games ahead of them before facing Manchester United in the FA cup final on Saturday 21 May.
