A confident Cheltenham Town side put Bromley to the sword on Saturday at their fine Whaddon Road Stadium, when they eased past Bromley by four goals to one.

Bromley were looking to end a run of only two league victories since October, while the hosts were hoping to extend their unbeaten league record to seventeen games.

Bromley opened the game brightly, looking organised in defence, but once the first goal went in it was a different story as the Ravens’ confidence drained away.

The visitors did have the first chance of the game, however, when Rob Swaine headed wide from Joe Anderson’s corner, and four minutes later Adam Cunnington held the ball up well before crossing, where Paul Rodgers’s header was only just wide of the post.

Cheltenham opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Jack Barthram advanced down the right to cross for Dan Holman who swivelled and fired past Alan Julian in the Bromley goal.

Five minutes later the recent signing from Colchester United, on home debut, doubled his tally when he was left unmarked on the left-wing to fire home under Julian from 16 yards.

The home side looked to extend their advantage as Danny Wright fed Asa Hall, who then went unchallenged on a run at goal before shooting wide.

Wright then created a chance for himself, chesting the ball down on the corner of the box, but was denied by a terrific save from Julian, before James Rowe missed a header from six yards.

On the stroke of half time Holman might have had his hat-trick when he burst into the area only to see his rising shot graze the bar.

Bromley fell further behind four minutes after the interval, when they failed to defend a corner and Wright was left unmarked to head home Rowe’s flag kick from close-range.

It got worse as twelve minutes later Wright added a fourth goal.

Holman chipped across goal where Wright was on hand to double his tally for the afternoon.

Rowe put a glancing header just wide of the post before Bradley Goldberg’s 25-yard shot was parried around the post at the other end.

Swaine saw another header from an Anderson corner go just wide; while Cheltenham’s Jordan Cranston’s hopeful cross bounced off the top of the crossbar.

Bromley reduced the arrears with five minutes remaining when Adam Coombes helped on Ali Fuseini’s through ball to Alex Wall, who rifled home a firm volley from just inside the penalty area.

Bromley drop to 14th position in the table, just ten points above the relegation zone.
