Foxes join race to sign Palace striker – report

Leicester have joined Premier League rivals Swansea in the transfer race to sign Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle.

The Swans were believed to have tabled a £7m offer for the former Peterborough star last week.

The 26-year-old, who joined the South Londoners in 2013, has failed to earn regular game-time this season and fell further down the pecking order after Emmanuel Adebayor signed.

Meanwhile, Palace have put a price tag on the head of unsettled forward Gayle.

The Mirror report that Swansea are desperate to acquire the Walthamstow-born man, but will have to agree on a deal that could reach £9m, with an initial £6.5m.

League One outfit Peterborough will receive a percentage of any fee.

Manager reveals competition for ex-Spurs star – report

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed he held talks with Emmanuel Adebayor over a move before his transfer to Selhurst Park.

The Togo international, who was a free agent since September after being released by Tottenham, attracted the interest of a host of clubs.

Hughes admits to holding conversations with the former Arsenal and Manchester City man but Adebayor’s preference was to remain in London.

Club owner dismisses striker links – report

Out-of-favour striker Fraizer Campbell will not be joining Leeds, owner Massimo Cellino has told Sky Sports.

Reports suggested the Championship club were hoping to seal Campbell’s signature during the January transfer window.

However, links with a move to Elland Road appear to be futile although Campbell, who signed for the Eagles last summer, is still being heavily linked with a departure.
