Former Charlton and Newcastle midfielder Rob Lee has criticised Addicks owner Roland Duchatelet – stating that the Belgian has made several ‘strange’ decisions.

The unpopular Belgian tycoon has come under fire from Charlton fans in recent weeks, with several mass protests held in which he has been urged to sell the club.

More than 5000 fans have signed a petition asking Duchatelet to actively search for a new owner.

Ex-Charlton and Newcastle star Lee, who made over 300 appearances for both clubs in the 1980s and 1990s, has questioned the club’s policy when it comes to bringing in players and managers.

“Charlton is a great club. I started my career there and my dad’s been a fan all his life,” said Lee at a Play with a Legend event.

“The owners have come in and he has done things strangely.

“He seems to bring players across from Standard Leige and Belgium but they’re not good enough.

“He’s gone through loads of managers, who are not well known, that have worked for small clubs in Belgium and they’re not good enough either.

“Then he doesn’t seem to get involved with what’s going on and I don’t think that ever works.”

Lee graduated through the Charlton academy in the early 1980s and helped fire the club to promotion to the First Division, before enjoying spells at Newcastle, Derby and West Ham.
