A goal early in each half saw Cray move six points clear at the top of the Isthmian League North with victory against an in-form Cheshunt side at Hayes Lane.   Ben Hunt’s second goal in successive games and Mike Frieter’s header secured the points in a match with plenty of good football played.

Cray went ahead after five minutes when Grant Basey made a run forward down the left and whipped a cross out to the right to Leigh Bremner who in turn played the ball across to Ben Hunt who smashed home a shot from close range.

Hunt came close on two occasions to adding to the lead, first his intricate backheel was deflected wide for a corner and then from a Basey corner his header was saved spectacularly by Jayden Purdue.

Cray scored their second three minutes after the break when Aryan Tajbakhsh put over a great cross from the right to the far post and Freiter despatched a fine header.

The visitors then had a good spell of pressure and had a goal disallowed for offside and Nick Blue saved well from Dave Kendall and Tom Fletcher and Jason Hallett dragged a shot wide but Cray held out for the win.
