Dartford boss Tony Burman was pleased with his side after they rescued a point in their 1-1 Kent derby draw against Maidstone United on Saturday at Princes Park.

The rain-soaked match was a cagey affair throughout the first half, with both sides struggling to test goalkeepers Deren Ibrahim and Lee Worgan.

The game opened up after the break and the visitors took the lead when Alex Flisher headed Matt Bodkin's cross past Ibrahim on 52 minutes.

Dartford responded brightly and their pressure paid off when Elliot Bradbrook found the net on 82 minutes.

His effort was originally disallowed for offside but referee Ian Cooper overruled his assistant's decision and controversially awarded Dartford their equaliser.

“I feel that the players have done well,” Burman said. “I felt that in fairness we could have gone on to win the game but it was not to be.

“I thought we played well today and that we definitely deserved something out of the game, if not all three points.”

The Dartford boss also discussed Bradbrook's goal: “It looked like a normal goal and I thought that there were a number of people on the line so I could not see how it was offside.

“The linesman seemed to think one of our players was standing in an offside position but the referee explained that he felt that the goalkeeper's view was not obstructed.”

Dartford came into the fixture after two consecutive wins and Burman was pleased with the development that his side has shown.

“I thought it was an entertaining game for the spectators,” the 57-year-old said.

“I am pleased that we have kept our run going and that we have come back from a goal down.

“They're starting to produce. We have said that they are a work in progress and that it takes a while.

“We have decided to bring some young recruits in and bed some guys in from the academy and they are going to take the places of the senior players in the future.”

Burman also paid tribute to the supporters and the impact they have had on his side's recent run of good form.

The Princes Park chief said: “The atmosphere around the place has been decent.

“The supporters have got over the FA Cup and decided that they want to get behind the team for those 90 minutes and they have one it tremendously well. It makes a difference to the side.”
