Guy Luzon doesn’t feel Derby’s shock cup exit last night at Portsmouth will have any impact on Saturday’s game between the Rams and his Charlton side.

Derby were knocked out of the Capital One Cup 2-1 by League Two Pompey and are still looking for a first win of the season after being held 0-0 by Bolton at the weekend.

Charlton, meanwhile, head to the iPro stadium in bullish mood following back-to-back victories over QPR and Dagenham.

But despite suffering at the hands of Pompey last night, the Addicks boss is attaching no significance to what happened at Fratton Park going into the upcoming Championship clash.

Luzon said: “I’m not expecting nothing (reaction to Portsmouth result).

“I can say the cup game will not have influence on the league because the cup and the league is a different story.

“I have expectations for these games - it is from my players and not the opponent.”

The Charlton head coach added: “I think Derby are one of the best teams in the league but we always have confidence and always trust our quality.

“We will do everything to come back with three points.

“I know that Derby are a club who have played a lot of seasons in the Premier League but it is not important for us.

“We are focused on our team and our players, we are not focused about the tradition of our opponent.”

Tuesday’s Dagenham game gave Luzon the chance to take a closer look at some of his squad players, but wholesale changes are expected at Derby even though those coming in midweek took the opportunity to impress.

He said: “When we have every three days a match we rotate the XI.

“We will not play with the same XI who started in the cup.

“That’s normal. We will change a lot of times the XI during the season because we have a lot of games here.”

The Addicks will still be without injured striker Igor Vetokele and keeper Stephen Henderson for the trip north.

Luzon also revealed there was a slight question mark over Charlton’s current man of the moment.

“Tony Watt is feeling his leg a little bit,” the gaffer said.

“I’m sure he will be ready but we will see.”
