Patrick Bauer is adamant the Championship will suit his style of play following his arrival from Portuguese club Martimo last month.

The 22-year-old, who started his career at Bundesliga club VFB Stuttgart, became the Addicks’ first signing of the season by putting pen to paper on a four-year contract last month.

Despite being inexperienced in England, the German defender is keen to show what attributes he can bring to the league.

Bauer revealed: “I would describe myself as a tough guy. I’m strong in the air and I like to have the ball.

“The Championship will suit my style of play as I’ve heard it is a very tough league and you have to be very strong to play in it.

“I believe that the league fits me and my style perfectly.”

After starting his pre-season programme with the club last week, Bauer has already settled into his new club with relative ease.

He explained: “I have already felt very comfortable at Charlton.

“My team-mates are very nice and have helped me a lot to settle in and I’m very happy to be here.

“It’s very important for me to get to know the league and the players and the coach,

“Then we can work hard to be 100 percent ready for the first game.”

However, the centre-back was reluctant to speculate what Charlton might achieve in his debut campaign.

“It’s very difficult for me to predict what we might achieve this season, because I didn’t get to see a lot of Championship games in the past,” explained the 6ft4in giant.

“I’m new here in England but I already know that we have great players, as I have seen what they can do in training.

“Once we play games in pre-season, we will see what is possible this season.”

Charlton kick-off their league campaign at home to a QPR side recently relegated from the Premier League, a London derby Bauer is already excited about.

“I’m really looking forward to this game,” he said.

“But not only this game, I am also looking forward to each game that we play and I’m hoping that I can do well for Charlton.”
