Guy Luzon said Charlton’s second half performance at Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday evening made the 1-1 draw feel like a defeat.

Frederic Bulot had volleyed the Addicks into an early lead after Chris Solly’s cross was headed into the danger zone.

But The Trotters were well on top in the second half and made their pressure pay when Adam Le Fondre fired home from an angle with 11 minutes left.

Luzon couldn’t hide his disappointment with his side’s second half performance.

“It feels like we lost 4-0,” explained the Israeli head coach.

“We arrived here with one target - to win the game. We moved the ball well in the first half. We scored one goal and we had another two or three options to score.

“When the momentum is in your hand you need to know how to finish and to kill the game.

“We said at half-time that we need to continue to keep the ball, because that is our power. If we continue to keep the ball we win this game.”

He continued: “Unfortunately, in the second half we were not patient with the ball, we don’t move the ball. When we don’t move the ball and when we don’t have quality on the ball we are exposed to the opponents. This is what happened.

“I added an attacking midfielder and we got possession back. This didn’t help us. I feel very bad because this kind of game we need to win and we need to continue to play football until the end.

“It’s not enough to play 45 or 60 minutes.”

Luzon wasn’t happy at all with his side’s style of play following the restart.

“My target is to continue to play football, like in the first half,” he said.

“I don’t want my team to go back and wait for the opponent to create chances to score.

“My philosophy is that we need to continue to play with the ball and influence the game until the end, no matter what the score is. We need to behave at 1-0 as we would at 0-0.

“In the second half, we need to think like it is 0-0 and make sure we win that half too. We didn’t do it and thats what happened.”

Bolton were playing with three men at the back, which meant in the first period Charlton were having a lot of joy down the wings. Johann Berg Gudmundsson in particular was finding plenty of space to attack down the wings.

Luzon felt this had played into Charlton’s hands in the opening half.

He said “We opened the game and we played along the lines for Fred (Bulot) and Johann, they played great.

“In the second half we had space to both the ball but we lost patience. We lost the ball after two or three passes.

“We were not wise with the ball and when you’re not wise with the ball in football, in my view you get punished.”

Young defender Joe Gomez was missing in central defence, replaced by former World Cup finalist Alou Diarra.

Luzon explained that the youngster required a rest following a busy playing period.

“Joe Gomez played in the Under 19s for England three games in a row, then came in and played four in a row for us,” the boss explained.

“He played seven or eight games in three weeks and its too much for players, he must rest.

“Diarra was OK. The mistake of the goal was a mistake of football. It could happen to any player. Diarra in the end played very well and was OK, not a problem.

“Our problem today where we lost the game was not because of an individual mistake. We lost the game because we stopped moving the ball in the second half.”

The Addicks take to the field again on Saturday as Leeds United visit The Valley and Luzon hopes to get back to winning ways.

“My target only is to win the next game. We came with a good attitude to win this game but its not all down to me.”
