Chris Eagles revealed he is hopeful an extension on his current contract can be wrapped up within weeks.

The 29-year-old, who joined the club on a short-term deal in February, played 81 minutes of the Addicks’ 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and was involved in a number of opportunities for Guy Luzon’s men.

Eagles had a goal disallowed for offside before Caolan Lavery struck shortly before half-time to give the Owls the lead.

Fortunately for the 828 visiting supporters, Johann Berg Gudmundsson fired his 11th goal of the season with quarter of an hour remaining to give the away side a satisfactory point.

And following a decent personal display at Hillsborough, Eagles remains confident his deal can be sorted before the end of the season.

He said: “We’re in talks - that’s what I want.

“I don’t want to be here for a short period and hopefully things will get sorted.

“Come the summer I’m sure you’ll find out, but everything is in hand.

“Every training session I’m getting fitter but I’m loving it and I love playing for Charlton at the moment.

“It’s just nice to be in a club with great fans, great team-mates and I like the manager, as everyone knows.”

Luzon bemoans disallowed goal at Hillsborough

The winger admitted he was frustrated with the offside call made against him, which prevented the ex-Blackpool ace from grabbing his third goal for Charlton.

Eagles explained: “I was disappointed, because we’ve been working on it in training with the runs in behind the defence.

“I knew with how I did it I was onside, so at half-time I explained to the referee.

“But by the time he’s blown, it’s too late anyway.

“I think first half we didn’t take our chances and then they got the goal, so fair play to them.

“It’s a tough one to look at, but I think overall we were disappointed not to get the win.”

Eagles played a part in Charlton’s equaliser after his shot was parried by Keiren Westwood, before the ball fell to Gudmundsson who finished confidently.

And the midfielder confessed the Addicks needed to play some more direct football to get the goal.

Eagles said: “When you go a goal down, the nice side of football goes out the window until you get that goal, which we did.

“I saw the keeper step to his right and lucky enough the parry went straight to Johann.”

The former Manchester United player comes up against one of his old sides Bolton on Tuesday night.

But despite looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces at the Reebok, the bonly objective for Eagles is collecting three points for Charlton.

He said: “I loved it at Bolton, it was a great time.

“I played Premier League football there and it will always mean something to me.

“But I’m going there as a Charlton player now.

“I want to play every game now I’m fit and I enjoy every game I play.”
