Scott Dann believes Monday’s victory over Manchester City was one of his best moments in a Crystal Palace shirt – even better than the amazing comeback against Liverpool last season.

The 28-year-old defender helped Palace to a 2-1 win over the champions at Selhurst Park as the Eagles climbed to 11th in the Premier League with their third straight victory.

Glenn Murray gave the home side the lead in the first half before Jason Puncheon added a second with a beautiful free-kick after the interval.

Yaya Toure’s strike with 12 minutes to play ensured a nervy finish at Selhurst Park, but Alan Pardew’s side stood form to record a famous victory.

Dann said: “It was a great night, a great performance and a great three points.

“This is definitely up there and it was a special night for the club.

“In the Liverpool game we came back and drew and showed our character but this is even better as we got the three points.

“We knew if we performed to a high level - which we know we are capable of - we could cause them problems.”

The 28-year-old added: “When you play against the top teams, you’re always up against it.

“We knew we were going to be under the cosh for long periods.

“Once we got our noses in front we grew in confidence and thought we could have had another goal if we took a bit more care on the break.

“We knew if we got a goal ahead it was going to be difficult for them to get back into the game.”

Dann played a huge part in Palace’s first goal when the centre-back was given the benefit of the doubt on a borderline offside decision and made Manchester City pay in the 34th minute as his shot from six yards was saved by Joe Hart, only for Murray to tap in.

He said: “I felt I was onside. I had a look across the line and tried to step back as Joe Ledley flicked it on.

“It is touch and go but sometimes you get them and sometimes you don’t.

“Fortunately it went for us tonight and Glenn put it in on the rebound and deserved his goal.

“I’m delighted for Glenn. He played really well.

“The way Glenn played epitomised us - the way he held it up, put his body on his line and won flick ons.

“The way he started us off was the catalyst for the performance.”

Dann almost played a part in Palace’s second goal as well, the free-kick from Puncheon that nestled in Hart’s bottom corner.

The Palace defender revealed: “We had a bit of a laugh and joke before he (Puncheon) took it. He said he was going to set it to me and I said ‘No go on, you have a shot’.

“He put it right in the corner.

“It was a great free-kick and I’m delighted for him because he has been playing really well of late.”

Dann added: “He doesn’t really take too many in training but he has got that quality with his left foot.

“He has got that bit of quality on the ball and calms us down a little bit more and takes that extra touch to get the game under control.”

The victory for Palace took them to 39 points and virtually assured their Premier League status for another year with seven games remaining.

But Dann is not content to let the season fade away and urged his team-mates to carry on their recent run of form.

He said: “Going into the game we were on 36 points and in a good position and there wasn’t as much pressure on as last season when we were down there.

“On the back of two wins we were confident.

“That showed in the performance and we thoroughly deserved it.

“Thirty six points is a good way above the drop zone but you can either let your season fizzle out or go on from strength to strength.

“With the lads we’ve got in the dressing room, until the final game of the season we will try and get as many points as we can and see how far we can go as a team.”
