Charlton head coach Guy Luzon revealed he was happy with his side’s efficiency in the second half of today’s 3-2 victory over Reading at The Valley.

After going 1-0 down to Pavel Pogrebnyak’s strike on 40 minutes, Charlton looked a different side after the break.

They got an equaliser after 58 minutes through Yoni Buyens’ seventh penalty of the season following a handball by Michael Hector.

Buyens then converted his second of the game, this time from open play, after 70 minutes, before Simon Church added a third with his second in a week ten minutes later.

Reading saw Danny Williams sent off for a second yellow card on 84 minutes following a dispute with Tony Watt.

Pogrebnyak pulled a goal back for Steve Clarke’s side in injury-time to create a nervy final few minutes for the home fans.

However, Charlton held on to give Luzon his seventh victory in charge of the Addicks since taking over from Bob Peeters in January.

And the boss, who deserves credit for his half-time team-talk, expressed how he wanted his side to have a killer instinct in the second period.

He said: “I think we started very well.

“The first 20-25 minutes we moved the ball well, the problem was the last pass and the last action.

“I told them that they needed to move the ball like we started the game but be more efficient.”

Luzon added: “I think second half was brilliant because we played great football and scored three goals.

“We could have had another three to five goals.”

The SE7 boss stressed how he believes after winning a fifth game in six matches on home turf, the feel-good factor has now returned to The Valley.

He explained: “For me it’s not important for us to only win, but the way that we play.

“We need to enjoy the game and play with smiles on our face and I think we did it very well today.

“We are happy, the staff are happy and the players are happy.

“Also the fans are happy.

“If we continue to play like this, we will win and more fans of Charlton will come to the game.”

There was a late change to the Addicks’ line-up before the game when Chris Solly picked up an injury in the warm-up.

The vice-captain was replaced by Alou Diarra who moved to centre-back and Joe Gomez subsequently went to right-back.

Luzon was pleased with how they both deputised but pointed out the squad is more than capable of dealing with such setbacks as and when they happen.

“Solly felt his ankle in the warm-up because he injured it a little bit against Blackpool, but Gomez went wide and Diarra played well at centre-back.

“But we are a team, a result does not depend on X player or Y player.

“We are a team and we are united.”
