Julian Speroni says every point matters in the Premier League as Crystal Palace look to remain in the top flight for a third successive season.

The Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Arsenal on Saturday despite putting in one of their best performances since Alan Pardew took charge of the club.

Palace remain five points clear of the relegation zone and Speroni feels they must start picking up points more consistently.

“Every point remains important. It’s hard to get in this league so we need to go out there and do our jobs,” said Speroni.

“Our aim hasn’t changed. We need to stay in the Premier League.

“This is our second season in the Premier League and we need to establish ourselves as a Premier League club.”

Palace fell behind early in the first half when Santi Cazorla scored a penalty before Olivier Giroud tapped in a rebound after Speroni saved Danny Welbeck’s shot.

The hosts dominated the second-half but could not salvage a point despite Glenn Murray’s late goal.

Speroni was pleased with his side’s efforts against Arsenal but felt everything went against them.

“It was a very good performance, especially the second half so I think we need to take a lot of positives out of this game,” he said.

“Their penalty looked to be outside the box and their second goal looked to be offside so nothing went for us.”

Speroni added that Palace must continue to show progress in the coming weeks.

“Obviously we haven’t done anything yet,” he said.

“We need to make sure that we carry on the same way because it is a long season.

Nothing is going to be decided in the next two or three games so we need to make sure we put in those performances like today week in, week out.”
