Mark Goldberg felt his Bromley side got what they desreved from an impressive 1-0 victory at Ebbsfleet as the Ravens return to the summit of the Conference South.

Reece Prestedge’s strike just before the hour mark was enough to seal all three points for the visitors, who go a point clear at the top with two games still in hand on their nearest rivals Boreham Wood.

And the Bromley boss was delighted with the disciplined display from his charges.

He said: “It was a solid performance throughout the whole 94 minutes.

“We didn’t really allow them to breathe, we kept pressing, we made sure that we were compact and we won second balls.

“Once we got on the ball, I thought our movement was great, we got in behind quite a few times.

“I think it’s fair to say that we had more goal-scoring opportunities and therefore we deserved to win.”

But Goldberg was the first to accept the outcome was never guaranteed with just the solitary goal cushion.

He explained: “When it is 1-0 you’re always concerned right to the last minute.

“They gave us a little scare early on.

“I thought we were a little bit nervous early on but we grew in confidence as the half went on.

“In the second half we certainly came out with confidence.

“We felt like we were the team who were going to get one if there was one going to be scored to get the winner.

“It’s really important to win our games in hand, it doesn’t matter where you come, especially against a team that is fancied to still get promoted.

“It was a big win for us today.

“We came here saying we must not lose, we wanted a draw but we got the win which is delightful.”

Prestedge pounced on a loose ball from Fleet’s Kenny Clark and smashed a low shot past Preston Edwards in the home goal to secure the victory for Bromley.

And Goldberg felt another strike had been coming for the midfielder.

“Reece has owed me a goal,” admitted the Lillywhites chief.

“Last year he scored 11 or 12 goals for Bishop’s Stortford. He’s had one or two so far, this is his third.

“He’s had a lot of opportunities where on another day he may well have scored, so today was his day to bury one for us and be the match winner.

“We’re absolutely delighted for him but also for the team.”

A fantastic rearguard action by Bromley limited goal-scoring opportunities for the hosts and Goldberg heaped praise on the back four.

“Jack Holland especially was absolutely outstanding, he’s just getting stronger and stronger,” the boss explained.

“Rob Swaine is the pivot there, the one that makes everybody else work.

“I thought the whole team just worked tirelessly, it was a lot of hard work and endeavour, closing down from the back right the way through to the front.”

Bromley’s support travelled in large and vocal numbers.

This, however, was marred by some unsavoury scenes from a minority of the club's fans.

But Goldberg was keen to thank the travelling contingent who backed his side well throughout.

He said: “There was great support tonight, incredible noise.

“It was better than what we get at home.

“Mind you, our away form is better than our home form so that’s maybe why.”

Bromley now sit in a commanding position atop the Conference South but the manager is refusing to get carried away just yet.

Goldberg said: “We’ve got massive games coming up, we’ve achieved nothing yet.

“But it’s nice to enjoy the evening.

“You’ve got to enjoy the nights where you win and enjoy the time you’re in a good position, because there’s a lot of hard, hard games coming up.

“We’ve struggled to beat teams at home wherever they are in the league, so it’s going to be a hard run in.

“I’ll take the position that we’re in and say it is probably a better position than last year.

“I think it’s fair to say we’ve got a stronger squad this year, we couldn’t cope with the injuries last year.

“We feel stronger and possibly the team spirit should get us over the line.”
