Crystal Palace has vowed to ban anyone found guilty of throwing coins at recent home matches against Newcastle and Liverpool.

A coin narrowly missed the eye of Newcastle captain Fabricio Colocinni when he was celebrating a goal with teammates during last week’s 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park.

Newcastle manager John Carver said the Argentinian defender could have been blinded for life.

An object was also thrown from the crowd during Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round.

Any Eagles fans caught throwing missiles from the stands face an indefinite ban.

The FA are investigating the incidents and Crystal Palace have passed CCTV footage to police to help identify the culprits.

The club, who will not face disciplinary action, have until Friday to respond to the FA and explain their safety measures.

A Crystal Palace spokesperson said: “We take a zero tolerance approach to this sort of behaviour and, if the perpetrators are identified, they will be banned indefinitely from the stadium.

“If they are season ticket holders their cards will be made void without a refund.

“The stupid behaviour of a few supporters risks creating a negative image of our club and we would appreciate the help of Palace fans in identifying the culprits, who are not welcome at Selhurst Park.

“The club already has extensive security measures in place, including body cameras for stewards, and will continue to improve CCTV coverage at the ground.”
