Guy Luzon has hinted Tony Watt might start Saturday’s London derby with Brentford following an impressive second half cameo on Tuesday.

Trailing 2-0 and having been completely outplayed by Norwich, the Addicks were booed off at the break and seemingly looked dead and buried.

But the introduction of the Scottish forward from the bench handed the under-fire hosts an unlikely looking route back into the game.

Watt grabbed his first goal for the club to halve the deficit just after the hour and then strike partner Igor Vetokele equalised seven minutes later.

Although the good work was ultimately undone by Cameron Jerome’s 85th minute header, Watt’s impact at least bodes well for the future, starting with this weekend’s clash with the Bees.

Head coach Luzon said: “Yes, it is an option that he will start.

“The players will know before the media will know but it is an option, yes.

“Tony is not fit to play Saturday 90 minutes, Tuesday 90 and Saturday another 90.

“Also, if he plays he is not fit to play 90 on Saturday. He can play 45/60/65.

“I’ve said it is a possibility he will start the game.”

Luzon also confirmed new signing Roger Johnson was also in contention to make his debut following more than a week of training with his new club.

Luzon came in for plenty of criticism from the stands after Norwich’s second goal went in, but the boss was adamant today he can turn things around and keep Charlton in the Championship.

“Of course I’m confident because I’m confident for my players, for the squad,” the Israeli said.

“I believe in the players and I believe in my team and I know that we have the quality and the character to do it.”

Luzon was then pressed to accept that he still needs to win the fans over.

“Yes,” he admitted.

“I spoke to the players and told them that they need to focus on the game and not what is happening around us.

“We need to be more organised and with the same passion that we showed when we started the game it will be OK, because also in the first half when it was 2-0 for the opponent I think the players gave what they have.

“But they were not smart in the game, they ran too much. In the second half we improved it and it was good to come back from 0-2 to 2-2.

“We need to bring the quality that we bring against Norwich in the second half- to push the opponent higher, to create chances, to play high tempo. We did well when we came back after 2-0 against Norwich.

“Unfortunately we conceded a goal in the last five minutes but we need to take the positive things and we had positive things from that game.”
