Charlton head coach Guy Luzon was satisfied as his new charges took a respectable point away from Molinuex in a 0-0 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There were precious few chances to speak of in the first half, which would have suited the Addicks after last week’s 5-0 humiliation at Watford. Dave Edwards, Dominic Iorfa and James Henry were all off target for the hosts from outside the area.

Charlton’s best moment of the 45 minutes came as Johann Berg Gudmundson tried to pick out Vetokele at the far post, but the cross eluded everyone and nearly crept in at the far post.

Both sides came out rejuvenated in the second half, with Charlton looking especially dangerous on the break with Gudmundson and substitute Tony Watt stretching Wolves.

However in the end the points were shared and Luzon will have been the happier of the two managers, stopping Kenny Jackett’s sides’ four game winning streak in the league.

The draw sees the Addicks drop to 17th in The Championship table.

The Israeli head coach admitted a clean sheet was his first aim for the afternoon.

“I think our first target was to keep the clean sheet after last week’s 5-0 defeat to Watford,” he said.

“It was very important to be organised, to be patient, to come with confidence.

“Wolves have fantastic momentum after 4 wins in a row. We know they are a difficult team, a talented team, an organised team.

“We did the job well. In the second half we had some chances to take the three points. Unfortunately we missed but I’m satisfied with our performance today. We did well.”

Charlton grew into the game after a slightly nervy opening quarter, and Luzon was happy with the response shown by his side.

“In the first half we were a little bit nervous because we knew it would be a very difficult game, against a fantastic team,” Luzon explained.

“In the second half we came with more confidence in attack. We created chances that unfortunately we missed but it’s football. We’re satisfied.

“Everybody, the staff, the fans and players will be delighted with what we showed today. Wolves are a very good team and we played well.

"We organised well, we were aggressive, we played with passion and created some chances to score. We can be satisfied.”

After the difficulties obtaining a work permit forced Luzon to sit in the stands at Vicarage Road last week, he was happy to get a chance to put his stamp on the squad.

“To be honest with you, last week I only made one training. This week is the first week I’ve started to work, be with the team and know the players.

“We have players with fantastic character, intelligent players. Within two, three days, they’ve got the message. Of course we need to improve and continue.

“The first thing that we needed to stop was conceding goals. After that we need to score. If you make the clean sheet you have the chance to win.

“If you drop goals every game then you don’t have the chance to win.”

Charlton showed plenty of battle on the pitch throughout the game, with Jordan Cousins in particular impressive. Luzon was also animated within the technical area, and he said his sides will always display a fighting spirit on the pitch.

“I am guy with passion, as are my players. That's the only way to be successful in football. If you come and are tired, without passion you don’t have any chance to win, even if you are talented.

“To pick the right team is my job and I know how to do it. We thought about and spoke about the positive things and what we needed to improve.

"We don’t speak or think negatively because we wouldn’t have a chance to even take one point.”

Luzon would not be drawn into explaining his decision to drop goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, who was replaced by new signing Marko Dmitrovic.

He did however indicate that more singings may be in the offing, with a week of the transfer window remaining.

“I think that we will try and get two, three players and will be ok,” he hinted.

Luzon will face his first home game with Charlton next Saturday as Rotherham United visit The Valley.
