Following Bob Peeters' departure from The Valley, News Shopper identifies five possible candidates who could succeed the Belgian in the Charlton hot seat.

1)      Guy Luzon

Luzon is the bookmakers' favourite to get the job and was linked with the Addicks before Peeters was sacked. The 39-year-old Israeli was in charge of Standard Liege for a year and guided the Belgian club to a runners-up spot in 2013/2014.

He resigned last October following a poor start to the season and in the side's statement it mentioned that Luzon, "would remain active inside the network of partner clubs."

However, rumours of fallings-out with players including former-Charlton loanee Astrit Ajdarević mean Luzon would probably not be an ideal candidate for fans.

2)      Jose Riga

Riga would be a popular choice with the Charlton faithful especially as the Belgian managed to help avoid relegation last season after succeeding Chris Powell in March.

The 57-year-old was surprisingly not retained following his successful spell but was rumoured to have fallen out with chairman, Roland Duchatelet.

Yet after Riga's experience at Blackpool earlier in the season and in particular with their chairman, Karl Oyston, the former Standard-Liege manager may be willing to work with Duchatelet again.

3)      Karel Fraeye

Fraeye was Riga's assistant at Charlton from March last year until the summer, when Peeters took charge. Fraeye, another Belgiais rumoured to have been at The Valley in recent months and is supposedly highly regarded.

Despite being the manager of Belgium third-division side VW Hamme, Fraeye is said to have been working as a football consultant in Duchatelet's network, so a move to Charlton could well be on the cards.

4)      Damien Matthew

Matthew has been the first-team coach under Peeters, Riga and Chris Powell and at the club since 2006.

The 44-year-old is a popular figure around the club and recently declared he would like to be in charge at some stage.

He will take temporary charge along with former-Addicks keeper Ben Roberts until a permanent successor is found. If Matthew can help guide Charlton to a result at promotion-chasing Watford, then there may be a possibility of him getting the job full-time.

5)      Alan Curbishley

The fans choice. 'Curbs' famously had a very successful spell at Charlton during 1991-2006, where he led the club to the Premier League on two different occasions, and will always be remembered for the heroics he performed in SE7.

If Duchatelet and chief executive Katrien Meire want someone with experience and a manager who could help reunite the club and their supporters, however unlikely it seems, Curbishley would surely be at the top of that list.

The 57-year-old said on Sky Sports News that he would be interested in taking some kind of role at the club.
