Yoni Buyens has revealed his frustration with Charlton’s run of draws following their 12th of the season at home to Blackpool on Saturday.

The Addicks trailed to Chris Eagles' first-half strike but equalised before half-time through Buyens' penalty.

Jordan Cousins’ second-half curled effort seemed to have given Bob Peeters’ side victory before Steven Davies’ 89th-minute headed equaliser gave Blackpool a crucial point and prompted boos from the home fans at the final whistle.

Midfielder Buyens, who returned to Charlton’s starting line up on Saturday following injury, said he and his team-mates understood the crowd’s displeasure at their recent results.

“We hate the draws,” he said. “For us at the moment, it’s the worst result we can have.

“Sometimes it’s good to draw when you’re away, but at home against every team, we are not happy with a draw especially against a team that is lower than us.

“It’s not first time we have given the lead away and especially in this way, it’s hard.

“Maybe it’s part of the learning process? We have a lot of new players in the team, so we just have to learn from this and hopefully it will not happen again.

“We tried to keep possession, maybe we didn’t do it as good as we could, but we tried to play forward and we tried to make the third goal.

“There wasn’t really any pressure on us from Blackpool, the free-kick wasn’t even a free-kick for me, so it’s unlucky.”

Peeters was sympathetic towards goalkeeper Nick Pope, who disappointed on Saturday by conceding two goals from set-pieces, and Buyens was quick to back his manager’s comments about the 22 year old.

“(Pope’s) a good guy,” he said. “He has a good head on his body, we don’t need to talk a lot about it, it happened, everybody knows what happened, so we should go on.

“Every player makes a mistake. Unfortunately if your ‘keeper makes one a lot of times it’s a goal.

“We just look forward and next week is another game and we’ll need him in that.

“A few words can give a lot of confidence, but they have to learn by themselves as well, they need the will to learn and if they have that, they will progress.

“The objective must be to be in the top six.

“It’s just about killing off the games a little bit earlier and not conceding goals like today.

“Today some players made mistakes but we are a group, we don’t need to point the finger, we lost two points as a team today.

“It’s hard, but we will get where we want to go.”
