Bromley recovered from a two-goal, half-time deficit to record a 3-2 victory over Bishop’s Stortford at Hayes Lane on Tuesday evening.

In two distinct halves it was the visitors who took full advantage of the gale-force winds and driving drizzle behind their backs in the first half and, as a consequence, they enjoyed much of the possession.

The visitors opened the scoring on 10 minutes when a long raking pass was played out left where Johnny Herd crossed to the far post and Ryan Auger stole in behind Joe Anderson to crack a first-time volley into the far corner of the net.

They increased their lead 14 minutes later when Ugo Udoji allowed Sheldon Sellears too much room and the winger fired in from 20 yards, giving goalkeeper Seb Brown no chance.

Jack Holland headed wide of the upright in an isolated attack, as did Moses Ademola moments later following good work by Louis Dennis.

Stortford went close again on 37 minutes when Mikel Suarez headed just wide with only Brown to beat and, as half-time loomed, Rob Swaine broke up a dangerous looking attack on the edge of the penalty area.

With the conditions favouring the home side, it took only four minutes of the second period for Bromley to reduce the arrears.  Following Swaine’s header from a right-wing corner, the ball bobbled around before the Bromley captain bundled it over the line.

Ademola shot past the post from a good position, and Jamie Slabber headed straight at the visiting goalkeeper, David Gregory, as Bromley searched for the equaliser.

Suarez flashed a shot across the face of Brown’s goal, while Ademola headed over at the other end.

The equaliser came on 75 minutes when substitute Jordan Robertson was fouled by Cheye Alexander on the left touchline and Danny Waldren stepped up to send the resultant free-kick into the net past Gregory, who had been unsighted when Ademola ran across the face of the goal.

Slabber just failed to touch home Robertson’s cross following good work by Anderson, before Bromley’s comeback was complete in the 90th minute.  An interchange of passes involving Ademola, Slabber and Robertson culminated in Adam Birchall finishing with a firm low drive through a crowd of players into the corner of the net.

Bromley: Brown, Udoji, Anderson, Prestedge, Swaine (McNaughton, 64), Holland, Scannell (Birchall, 69), Waldren, Slabber, Ademola, Dennis (Robertson, 69). Subs not used: Rodgers, Joseph-Dubois.
