Bob Peeters believes Reading will go into Saturday’s game with his Charlton side in bullish mood following back-to-back home victories.

The Royals have been inconsistent so far this season but won their last two games at the Madejski 3-0 against Blackpool and Rotherham.

Charlton head to Berkshire with only one win from the last six, something the draw specialists will be looking to put right at the weekend.

Peeters said: “I saw Reading’s game against Blackpool where they won 3-0.

“The first goal they scored was an error by the goalkeeper, the second goal was an own goal and the third one was a penalty.

“Blackpool were struggling and Reading needed those three points.

“Then they had another 3-0 victory on Tuesday (v Rotherham).

“If you take six points out of the last three games then you are full of confidence.

“It is going to be a hard game again for us and we need to be on the top of our game again to get something out of it and try to win it, because that is what we try to do every game - but apart from Bolton recently we didn’t win.”

Apart from the injured Rhoys Wiggins, Peeters is optimistic Charlton will be at full strength for the Royals encounter.

“Joe Gomez is back to full fitness,” the head coach explained.

“Frederic Bulot trained today, so he might be in the squad – we will see tomorrow if he doesn’t have a reaction.

“We have some important weeks ahead after the international break when we go Saturday-Saturday and hopefully everybody - except Rhoys Wiggins - can get 100 percent fit so the competition within the squad is hard as well.

“Because we go from Saturday to Saturday after the international break I think there is no problem with Chris Solly, but like I said at the beginning of the season the games he played he is 100 percent and he is giving it his best.

“I think he has played very well but the only thing is we didn’t push him to three games a week because then maybe we will blow his knee and then we lose him for several weeks.

“That’s why we managed him (this way) and from now on we go Saturday to Saturday so normally he will be playing every game if he is good enough.”

Peeters had suggested earlier in the season Solly might be used three times a week after the October international break, something which didn’t happen in the end.

The head coach today explained why not, saying: “At that point it is all about the confidence of the player as well.

“If a player says ‘Ok I’m fit but I’m not really sure about playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday’ then you don’t need to do it because if a player is not confident about his knee – I think he is fully fit but it is a mental thing.

“I’m not going to risk a player for one game on Tuesday to lose him maybe for a few months like they did last season.

“We have a squad and I think Lawrie Wilson did very well as a right-back as well.

“If players give me a sign that they are not really up for it then you need to play another player who is 100 percent fit and willing to play.”
