Danny Waldren couldn’t hide his delight after his brace in Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup win at Evesham United fired Bromley into tonight’s first round draw.

Waldren had given the Conference South side an early lead after a fantastic run down the left hand side by Louis Dennis whose low cross left the midfielder with a simple finish after six minutes.

The goal drew a response from the home side, who ply their trade in Southern League Division One South & West, and they equalised before half-time as Ashley Edenborough headed home from a corner.

However, the Lillywhites regrouped at the break and it was Waldren who again restored the lead, heading home from a Dennis corner five minutes into the second period to ensure Bromley qualified for the first round of the FA Cup for the fifth time in nine years.

The double goal hero said: “I’ve been in there twice against Leyton Orient and Fleetwood, and the feeling is just so good it’s unreal.

“I’m pleased I could help the team achieve it again.”

Bromley didn’t have it all their way in Worcestershire and Waldren admitted Evesham United belied their position in the eighth tier of the football pyramid, two steps below the Lillywhites.

He said: “They were a very good team

“They took me by surprise personally, I think they took a lot of us by surprise.

“But we know what to expect, we’re professional enough as individual players to understand the ability of some players in these lower leagues.

“They were a very tough challenge today but fortunately we’ve come through.

“To be fair to Evesham, they’ve got a really good set up down here.

“They have a few fans who really got behind their team, which was impressive for me.”

It was a determined defensive display towards the end of the game which saw Bromley over the line as Evesham applied plenty of late pressure.

Waldren praised his side’s defence after they put their bodies on the line to block out some last-ditch efforts.

“They gave us a bit of a scare towards the end but we held solid,” said the goal scorer.

“The boys at the back were fantastic and we got the win.”

Waldren also heaped praise on winger Louis Dennis, who provided both assists for the goals.

“Different class, I couldn’t miss really!” said Waldren of Dennis’ cross for the opener.

“Louis is fantastic, he’s an absolutely fantastic player.

“He did a great bit of work down the left flank and put it on a plate for me, so I’m pleased for that.”

With Bromley safely in the hat for the first round draw this evening, Bromley are now looking forward to a potentially big tie with a Football League club.

When asked what sort of tie he’d like, Waldren said: “A League One club obviously appeals most, but sometimes you can look at it and say you want a reasonable tie where you can get a win and progress further, so either one of those to be fair.

“Either a really big club for me or someone against who we could actually get a victory and move onto the next round.”

Bromley will find out who they face in the first round at 7pm in the televised draw on BBC2.
