Keeper Seb Brown’s  inspired display ensured Bromley overcame a potential banana skin at Evesham United in Saturday’s FA Cup tie.

Southern League South & West Division hosts Evesham may have been two leagues below Bromley, but they held the upper hand and only Brown kept the Lillywhites in the tie.

The Hayes Lane outfit got off to the perfect start when Danny Waldren put them in front after just five minutes.

Moses Ademola played Louis Dennis in down the left, who took the ball to the byline before laying it into the path of Waldren to side-foot home from 10 yards past Kevin Sawyer.

Almost immediately the home side responded with Brown saving well from Lance Smith before Marcus Jackson blazed over from a promising position.

Brown then denied Elliot Kennedy by diving at the foot of the post before the keeper brilliantly palmed away Ashley Edenborough’s volley after the striker had easily turned Jack Holland on the edge of the area.

Dennis had a low shot saved by Sawyer and Pierre Joseph-Dubois’ header was saved by the home keeper.

Ademola fired hopelessly wide from Ugo Udoji’s throw in and Jordan Robertson’s snap-shot went straight at Sawyer.

Evesham deservedly levelled on 38 minutes.

George Washbourne whipped in a corner and Edenborough rose high to glance a header into the far corner of the net.

It was no more than the hosts deserved, although-Bromley were then denied twice on the stroke of half time.

Brown’s long clearance was headed into the path of Ademola and he chipped the advancing keeper, only to see Linden Dovey clear his effort off the line, before Robertson was denied by Sawyer’s legs from the follow up shot.

It was Brown who again came to the rescue of his side early in the second half when he went full length to tip over Carl Brown’s close range volley.

But Waldren eased the pressure by scoring his and Bromley’s second goal on 50 minutes when he stooped low to plant a firm header into the net from Dennis’ corner.

The game then degenerated into a bad tempered and niggling affair.

Bromley picked up five bookings which, together with one in the first half, has earned them an automatic Football Association fine of £500.

Brown thwarted the hosts again in the 69th minute by punching over Westbourne’s wickedly dipping free-kick.

Smith went close moments later before Brown again came to the rescue of the visitors when denying substitute Jack Watts.

Duncan Culley curled an effort narrowly wide as two defenders converged on him; and fellow substitute Mitchell Pinnock could have sewn the game up when he broke at pace, only to be denied by a last-ditch tackle by Dovey.

Evesham, however, continued to pile men forward with Holland heading behind from a Kevin Slack cross.

Matt Sysum skimmed the bar with a header from the resultant corner and in the last of six added minutes Washbourne saw his goal=bound shot blocked on the line by Udoji as Bromley bravely held on.
