Although there are two divisions between the teams, Maidstone United claimed a well deserved victory over Welling United.

Alex Flisher had the first opportunity when picking up a loose clearance but his shot went harmlessly wide.

Former Welling captain Jack Parkinson stunned his former employers by heading Flisher's cross home in just the fourth minute.

Poor defending could have undone Welling again when Jamie Coyle attempted a shot from another Welling half clearance and Jay May flicked it over the bar.

Frannie Collin attempted to lob debutant Wings goalkeeper Benjamin Buchel but it floated harmlessly over then parkinson headed a corner too high.

Steve Watt headed another Flisher long throw over before Stones' goalkeeper Lee Worgan was called into action when clearing as Tyrone Marsh burst through.

Watt almost capitalised when, again, Welling struggled with a long ball into the area but he was unable to keep his shot down.

Kieron St. Aimie registered Welling's first goal attempt in the 35th minute but Worgan beat out his powerful close range effort.

Collin's lob floated over as Welling struggled to get into the game and were pleased to go into the game with just a one goal deficit.

Playing with more urgency after the break, Welling came close when Worgan made a brilliant save from St Aimie from Harry Beautyman's corner but Maidstone broke almost immediately and doubled their lead. Tom Mills did all the work before squaring unselfishly for Collin to tap in.

Welling responded immediately through Jake Gallagher who scrapped his way through before prodding home.

Aristide Bassele had a shot well saved at the end of a good move but Welling were unable to maintain the momentum and Maidstone looked more likely to score again.

Injury to Marsh meant that he had to be replaced and Malachi Hudson came on before Watt missed a glorious chance as Welling struggled to clear a long throw.

May then looked to feast on a loose ball but his shot went wide off a prone Parkinson.

Flisher broke and crossed but May headed wide when he should have done better.

Jamal Fyfield was cautioned for one foul too many as the game became more stretched before injury to Bassele meant he had to be replaced with Jon Nouble coming on in his place.

Coyle then came close but his header was cleared off the line by Joe Healy but it did not matter as the hosts saw out the game comfortably.

Welling United: Buchel, Williams, Jefford, Gallagher, Chambers, Fyfield, Bassele (Nouble 77), Beautyman, Marsh (Hudson 61), St. Aimie, Healy. Unused substitutes: Butcher, Corne, Fagan, Penny.
