Charlton manager Bob Peeters has admitted Bournemouth fully deserved today’s 1-0 victory over the Addicks at the Goldsands Stadium.

Cherries striker Callum Wilson scored the only goal of the game for Eddie Howe’s side in the third minute to end the Addicks’ unbeaten record in the Championship, a result which sees them drop to eighth in the table.

Following his side’s lacklustre performance, Peeters felt the result was probably a fair reflection on the match.

He said: “I think Bournemouth did very well, they pressed us very high and we didn’t have a solution.

“Then you give a goal away when in possession of the ball when we wanted to switch the play.

“You then concede a corner, they played it well and scored a goal.

“Overall, I think if you see the game they deserved the win.”

Peeters added: “We tried to change things at half-time, change the system. I think we had more pressure on them.

“I took Johnnie Jackson off precautionary, as he was on a yellow card and I didn’t want us to have 10 men second half.

“I think we came out better second half, but not good enough to get something out the game.”

The Belgian head coach also substituted Igor Vetokele at the break after the Angolan international suffered an injury and Peeters admits he is a doubt for Tuesday’s game against Bolton.

“He was struggling with his Achilles,” the boss explained.

“You then lose a big asset to our team and to our system.

“He’s going to be a big doubt for Tuesday.”

Vetokele was partnered upfront by 17-year-old Karlan Ahearne-Grant in the first half, who was making his full debut for the away side, and Peeters was delighted by the youngster’s performance.

He said: “I think he did brilliantly, he did everything we asked of him.

“We said, ‘OK, give your maximum 60 minutes and we’ll see,’.

“But because of the circumstances with Jackson, and that Gudmundsson was struggling as well, he kept fighting and playing well.

“I’m happy with his performance but not the team’s.”

All eyes will now be on Charlton to get a reaction against Bolton at The Valley, however, Peeters doesn’t know which way the game will go.

“First we need to get this game out of our system.

“It will be a different game against Bolton, we need to see who is going to be available.

“Because they have a new manager, we don’t know how they are going to play so we will see on Tuesday.”
