Once again Welling United were left disappointed as they performed well on their travels but returned home empty handed.

Until they suffered a dubious sending off, they had appeared well in command but the once down to ten men they were up against it.

Jonathan Henly was introduced in goal for his Welling United debut. He has joined the Wings on loan from Reading to replace Lee Butcher who has departed from the club, and replaced back-up Jamie Turner.

Barney Williams started ahead of Loui Fazakerley and Jamal Fyfield came in for Sam Corne as Welling manager made three changes to the team who defeated Braintree Town in their last outing. He juggled the defence playing Fyfield alongside Chris Bush, Williams took the right back role and Ben Jefford remained at left back.

Wes York created the first opportunity for Wrexham but was unable to find the target from 20 yards. He then fired well over from a long way out after a poor free kick was half cleared.

Jon Nouble found his way into the referee's notebook for a challenge on Neil Ashton that the refere deemed a foul as the two teams felt their way into the game.

It took 25 tentative minutes before the first corner was won. Zach Fagan broke out and found Harry Beautyman. His deep cross looking for Tobi Sho-Silva, was tipped away by Dan Bachmann and hoofed away by Ashton.

This signified a spell of Welling enjoying more of the game and they went ahead in the 32nd as a result of the endeavour of Tobi Sho-Silva. He forced a defensive error before squaring for Beautyman to finish.

Tyrone Marsh came close to doubling the lead with an effort from the edge of the area that just missed the top corner with Bachmann beaten.

Beautyman was through just before the break but Bachmann saved well before Henly was called upon to make his first save in first half injury time from a York effort

Despite, an excellent second half showing, Welling's away day woes continued with them yet to claim a point on their travels.

Early in the second half, Elliott Durrell made the most of some hesitancy in the Welling defence but flashed his effort across the face of goal.

A good Welling move gave Jake Gallagher the chance to square but Tyrone Marsh's fierce drive flew into the arms of Buchanan.

Hosts Wrexham were lifted when a second yellow for Nouble, for what appeared to be a clean tackle, resulted in his dismissal and they started to come back into the game. Day responded by bringing on the experienced Joe Healy for Marsh.

Once again, failure to clear could have cost Welling. Wrexham won a corner that they should never have had and Manny Smith rose at the far post but headed down and wide.

Despite enjoying much more of the ball, Wrexham didn't trouble Welling too much until the 83rd minute when leading scorer Louis Moult tucked home a cross from York and two minutes later the game was turned upside down.

Joe Clarke's speculative shot took a massive deflection and left Henly stranded.

Andy Bishop might have added a third but headed Durrell's cross straight at Henly.

It will have been a tough journey home for the players and Welling will look to bounce back when they entertain Lincoln City on Tuesday night.
