Bob Peeters says Michael Morrison has not asked for reassurances on his Charlton future despite finding first team opportunities limited this season.

The defender signed a new two-year contract extension in the summer, but it was reported recently he could be set to move on having only played in the two League Cup games so far this season.

Asked if the player had requested talks on his situation, Peeters flatly replied: “No.”

But when initially pressed on whether the exit rumour was true at this afternoon’s weekly meeting with the media, the Belgian head coach seemed more non-committal.

“I don’t know, every player can go out of Charlton,” the SE7 chief said.

“I think every player is for sale but at this moment I think Michael Morrison is still with us.

“He is training very well.

“I’m very happy with him, I don’t think there is an issue.”

It was then suggested to the manager any decision to move Morrison on would look bizarre considering the 26-year-old had penned that new deal in June.

“Yeah, but again sometimes you understand whether it is Morrison or another player like Joe Pigott now for instance - OK he is a young player (Pigott) - but sometimes players want to play.

“And if they want to play and if they want to play with another team, OK sometimes you need to let them go because otherwise you are holding a player against his will and nobody is benefitting from that.

“But at this moment the squad who is here stays at Charlton and tries to be competitive.

“Everybody is competing for a starting place and that includes Michael Morrison.”
