CHARLTON: Damian Matthew and Ben Roberts will take part in a question and answer session with fans at tomorrow evening’s Bromley Addicks meeting.

First team coach Matthew and goalkeeping trainer Roberts will be telling fans about Charlton’s fine start to the new season and explaining how things are different under Bob Peeters.

The event takes place at Bromley Conservative Club, 27 Elmfield Road, Bromley, BR1.

Entry is for Bromley Addicks members only but people can join on the night for £5 adults, £3 seniors and students and U18s free.

IRONMAN: A Charlton fireman and fitness coach is set to take part in next month’s Ironman world championships in Hawaii.

Keith Saunders, 33, qualified at July’s Ironman UK event in Bolton.

After nearly 10 hours of racing, the top three athletes in his category were separated by just two seconds, which resulted in a dramatic sprint finish.

Saunders finished just outside the top 10 of nearly 2,000 competitors among the full-time professional athletes and is now preparing to take on the best endurance athletes.

Ironman is a gruelling endurance triathlon requiring competitors to swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles and run a marathon.

October’s world championships in Hawaii are widely recognised as the pinnacle in competitive endurance sport.

Saunders said: “It has been a lifelong ambition of his to qualify and is the result of more than a decade of hard work and dedication.”  

GOLF: Cherry Lodge Golf Club in Biggin Hill is celebrating after beating 15 other Kent clubs to win the prestigious Wilding Cole trophy.

It is the first time the club has won the trophy, a team knockout competition for players with handicaps of eight and over.

After battling through the early rounds against Langley Park, Sidcup and Rochester & Cobham, Cherry Lodge faced Shooters Hill in the final at Eltham Warren Golf Club.

A strong Shooters Hill side were no match for the might of Cherry Lodge, who achieved an impressive 5-3 win.

MUAY THAI: Thamesmead brothers Karim and Sachin Daniels are set to reprtesent the UK in a world k1 competition at the O2 this weekend.

Sachin, 10, heads to the event full of confidence having recently represented England alongside Semtex Gym team-mate Mo Dienge.
