Charlton head coach Bob Peeters may not have been a familiar name to many Addicks fans before his summer appointment at The Valley.

Some might have been able to vaguely recall his two-year spell as a bit part player down the road at rivals Millwall a decade earlier.

But very few would have known of Peeters’ involvement with the Belgian version of TV show Total Wipeout in 2009 following his retirement from the game.

“I was not a presenter, I was a sidekick commentator,” the SE7 boss explained.

“The guy who did present it in Belgium is one of my best friends and he asked me.

“At that moment I’d just finished football so I said ‘why not’.

“It was a sporting programme so I did it and enjoyed it.”

The UK Total Wipeout was a huge hit when broadcast by the BBC with millions of viewers regularly tuning in on Saturday evenings to see contestants slip, slide, spin and bounce their way around several obstacle courses.

And although happy to commentate in his home country, Peeters confessed he never took on the challenge himself.

“No, no, no,” the Addicks manager laughed.

“It was very, very hard. But I liked doing it.”
