Both Welling United and Woking will consider their drawn match as two points dropped.

Whilst the Wings may be disappointed at conceding a late interest, their visitors will rue a host of missed chances, especially in the first thirty minutes.

Having played five at the back at Halifax, Jamie Day reverted to a back four with Zach Fagan partnering Jamal Fyfield in the centre and Chris Bush moving out to left back..

In midfield, Sam Corne made his league debut as did as did Kieron St Aimie up front.

Fagan turned a powerful shot past the post for a corner in the opening minutes as the visitors started strongly and Loui Fazakerley showed great skill to turn away a John Goddard low cross as Scott Rendell looked set to score.

Theo Lewis then burst through but Lee Butcher did superbly to push his shot onto the post and out for another corner.

Fazakerley was called into action again, clearing off the line as Welling struggled to deal with the delivery.

Harry Beautyman spun his man well before scuffing his shot wide but made no mistake when offered another chance in the 33rd minute.

Jake Gallagher's excellent through ball sent Beautyman away and he lobbed Aaron Howe before rounding him and side-footing into the back of the net.

Josh Payne blasted a free kick well over before brilliant defending by Gallagher kept Goddard out just before the break.

Two minutes into the second half, Fyfield had to be withdrawn. Barney Williams replaced him, taking up the left back position with Bush moving into central defence.

Joe McNerney, who had already been booked, when he made a very robust challenge on Beautyman.

Williams almost notched a contender for goal of the season when an effort from fully 35 yards swerved just beyond the angle with Howe well beaten.

Afolabi Obafemi was cautioned when Payne drove a free kick directly at him before Gallagher sent Tyrone Marsh away only to see his effort saved by Howe.

Obafemi was replaced by Jon Nouble, who signed on a one month loan from Dagenham and Redbridge earlier in the week, then Malachi Hudson came on for Marsh becoming the 12th player to make his Welling debut in the four games played so far this season..

Nine minutes remained when Welling conceded the equaliser. St Aimie was penalised for an offence that nobody other than the referee spotted. The free kick caused chaos in the penalty area and fell kindly for substitute Adam Newton to bundle home.

Matters could have been worse for Welling deep into injury time but Fazakerley was on hand to clear with a full length diving header..

Welling United: Butcher, Fazakerley, Bush, Gallagher, Fagan, Fyfield (Williams 46), Marsh (Hudson 77), Beautyman, St Aimie, Obafemi (Nouble 73), Corne. Unused substitutes: Turner, Gorman.
