Ebbsfleet manager Steve Brown praised his players for putting on an entertaining performance for the crowd following his side’s 4-0 end of season home victory against Dorchester.

Stonebridge Road was fuller than usual thanks to the club giving fans free entry, although with Ebbsfleet having guaranteed a play-off place and Dorchester already relegated, there was nothing riding on the game.

This meant Brown made six changes to the side which had secured that play-off spot with a 2-1 victory over Concord Rangers on Thursday night.

And the freshened up side put on a perfect display as they dominated the match from first whistle to last, something which pleased the boss.

Brown said: “We were afforded the luxury of making changes today because of the result on Thursday night and I asked the players to put on a performance.

“It was free entry, so we had a slightly bigger crowd than normal, and I asked the guys who hadn’t been playing recently to show the crowd and myself that the performance wasn’t going to be an end-of-season, nothing on the game performance.

“They certainly did that.

“We took liberties at times with the way our shape was but we’ve won 4-0 and I don’t think anyone can argue that we created some very good opportunities today to win by a bigger scoreline.”

He added: “It became a little bit like shooting practice for us at times but Dorchester have had a difficult season and this isn’t an easy place to come as our home record is very good, so they would have expected to be on the back foot for some part of the game.

“If we’d have taken every opportunity which came our way today we could have won by a very big scoreline.

“The job was to keep a clean sheet, so that’s now seven home games on the bounce we’ve done so.

“In that respect the players did a very thorough job as they got the result, the clean sheet and four goals.

“Now we look forward to Wednesday and the play-offs.”

The Fleet now host Bromley on Wednesday night before travelling to Hayes Lane for the return leg on Saturday.

And Brown did not reject the suggestion some players’ performances against Dorchester meant they were in contention to start the first leg.

He said: “We’ve got a 17-man squad and I’d be a fool to say no as we’ve won 4-0 today and the players are fit and available for selection.

“It’s just a case of getting my head down, watching Bromley, assessing their set-up and seeing what we think fits best for us.”

And the Stonebridge Road chief is urging fans to turn up in numbers for the first leg clash with the Lillywhites.

“The bigger the crowd here on Wednesday, the better,” said Brown.

“I think you’ve seen earlier in the season that when the crowd is stuffed into Stonebridge Road, it creates a brilliant atmosphere.

“It’s a mouth-watering game as we beat them 4-1 here in the FA Trophy and they bounced back and beat us 3-1 here in the league.

“Any team which has reached the play-offs is a decent team, so we’ve got two legs to conjure up a way of getting through to the final.

“I think it will be a decent two games against Bromley.”
