Julian Speroni says Crystal Palace head to Everton full of belief after three straight wins lifted the Eagles to the brink of safety.

Saturday’s 1-0 success over Aston Villa came on the back of victories against Chelsea and Cardiff and means Palace can head to their game in hand on Merseyside in a strong position in the table.

Everton are on their best run of form since last winning the title in 1987 and will be strong favourites on the back of seven straight victories as they look to book a place in next season’s Champions League.

But Eagles keeper Speroni sees no reason why Palace can’t continue their own winning streak at the School of Science.

He said: “Week in, week out, the team performance is always there and that has given us the points we need to hopefully stay in the division.

“It is an important step but we haven’t achieved anything yet, we are not yet safe.

“The confidence we can take into the Everton game is amazing and hopefully we can keep our good run going.

“It is going to be another tough match but we need to pick up some points to secure survival as soon as possible, so let’s see what happens.”

He added: “It would be absolutely massive for this football club if we could survive this season.

“I’ve been here ten years and we’ve been through everything you could possibly go through.

“We’ve had relegation battles, promotion campaigns, administration, so being here now in this position is good for the football club.”

A third goal in a week from Jason Puncheon was enough to see off Villa at Selhurst on Saturday and Speroni felt the home side were in control throughout, although he was called upon to make a stunning late save to deny Andreas Weimann.

The Argentine explained: “Aston Villa had a lot of possession in the first half but didn’t really create much and I only touched the ball a couple of times, so we had the game under control really.

“We were much better going forward in the second half, created a lot of chances and probably should have scored another couple goals.

“But we will happily take the 1-0 and the three points.

“Sometimes you make some saves and the team end up losing and that is frustrating, but it is fantastic when you can make some saves and it helps the team pick up points.”
