Charlton captain Johnnie Jackson fully expects his side to be at full tilt against Barnsley tomorrow night, despite their hefty fixture schedule.

The Addicks were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Brighton on Saturday in what was the club’s tenth game in just 35 days.

But victory tomorrow night against fellow strugglers the Tykes would propel the SE7 side up to 18th in the Championship and Jackson hopes he and his team-mates will be fully recharged in time.

“A lot of emphasis is put on recovery between games,” said the Addicks skipper.

“It has been a tough schedule, I don’t think there is any getting away from that.

“It is pretty much four weeks that we have been at it Saturday-Tuesday, and we know it is going to be like that until the end of the season.

“We highlighted that about a month ago and said that there will be very little time to train and have put a lot of focus onto recovery.”

And Jackson has at least been pleased by the way Charlton have responded to their weekend setbacks.

He said: “We are going to have days where we aren’t at our peak but we have always managed to look better on Tuesday nights, so hopefully against Barnsley we will be raring to go again.

“It is going to be hard to maintain our physical levels in every game because we play so many games in such a short space of time.

“We haven’t got a huge squad, there aren’t loads of bodies to get out there.”

Jackson added: “On Saturday the manager brought me off with 10 minutes to go, hopefully that is to conserve a little bit for Tuesday.

“That is important that we manage the squad, and we as players have to do the right things to make sure we are ready for the next game.

“There is no time to dwell.”

Saturday’s trip to the south coast was all but over by half-time as goals from Jesse Lingard and Leonardo Ulloa put the Seagulls in control.

Although Reza Ghoochannejhad did hit the bar just before Brighton’s second, Charlton rarely threatened and Jackson was disappointed with their performance.

He explained: “It was an off day and we are disappointed because we want to be creating more than what we did.

“We haven’t scored bundles of goals all season and we know that when we do get chances, then we have to take them.

“It is disappointing from that aspect and we weren’t at the level that we expect of ourselves.

Jackson added: “We couldn’t afford not to be because they are a good side and they were worthy winners.

“Brighton are a good side and there is no shame in defeat to them.

“But we were disappointed with the goals, because they gave them a leg-up that they don’t really need.

“We have got a massive game on Tuesday and we scored three at The Valley last week, so hopefully we can do it again.”
