A makeshift Bromley side bowed out of the Kent Senior Cup semi-final at Dover Athletic when they went down to an injury time goal in a 3-2 defeat.

Against a virtual first team Dover side, the Lillywhites were pegged back in their own half for almost the whole of the first period, and when they fell behind in the ninth minute it looked as though they might have been on the end of a heavy defeat.

But to their credit they held on to regroup at the interval and battled to the end.

James Rogers and Elliott Charles went close in the opening minutes, before Michael Kamara put the hosts ahead.

Moses Ademola, Charles and Ricky Modeste all squandered further chances for the home sidebefore a promising Bromley move broke down on the byline.

Ademola blazed over with only Paul Agu to beat and Charles headed over an open goal on the stroke of half-time.

There was more determination in Bromley’s play after the interval and Louis Dennis was unlucky not to equalise on 49 minutes.

He fastened onto a pass to get past the Dover keeper, only to be obstructed by Ricky Gabriel who then put the ball behind for a corner, with Max Fitzgerald heading wide from the flag-kick.

Bromley levelled the scores on 75 minutes. A poor clearance from Richard Orlu went straight to Jack Holland, who promptly played it back over the top where Elliot Buchanan converted.

Three minutes later, the visitors stunned the meagre home crowd with a second goal. Dennis did extremely well on the right touchline, beating two defenders before a delicate chip was met by a firm header from Jake Reid.

Agu saved at point blank range from Charles and then deflected the follow up shot.

But unfortunately the Bromley keeper failed to hold substitute Tom Murphy’s cross and Charles levelled with a simple tap in on 83 minutes.

Bromley’s fate was sealed in the fourth minute of time added on when Charles scored his second, and Dover’s third, of the evening to secure their place in the final.
