CHARLTON boss Chris Powell is demanding his players build on last night’s confident display at high-flying Reading ahead of this weekend’s trip to Yeovil.

The hosts took all three points at the Madejski thanks to a solitary Billy Sharp goal which the Reading debutant drove past Ben Alnwick from 18 yards on 13 minutes.

Although the Royals then bossed most of the opening half, a resurgent Addicks had them on the back-foot for long periods after the break and were perhaps unlucky not to claim at least a share of the spoils.

Reading are amongst the favourites to make an instant return to the Premier League in May and competing valiantly against them has given Powell hope ahead of Saturday’s relegation scrap at resurgent Yeovil.

The Valley chief said: “We showed we can create and play against a side that was in the Premier League six months ago.

“Going into the weekend this is a game that we definitely have to take something from.

“Yeovil have got a couple of results recently so they will be buoyant, but we have a lot to take from tonight.

“We will go there thinking that if we play anywhere near our maximum and anywhere near like we did tonight we can definitely take something from it.”

Yeovil have won their last two games, including last night’s 1-0 home success over Blackpool.

And although defeat in Somerset would see the Glovers leapfrog the Addicks and put three in the bottom three, it would not be the end of the world according to Powell.

The SE7 outfit would still have 27 games left to try and claw their way out of the dreaded drop zone and the former England international is too long in the tooth to worry just yet.

“We would have to take care of ourselves and do our best to turn it around and we would need to keep fighting,” the Valley boss said.

“Looking at what has happened in last two games people will look closely at the Yeovil result, but we have got to keep our heads and not be too gung ho.

“That is we what we have got to do as it is a huge game, probably the biggest game of the season so far.

“When you look at the respective positions, we would have to play with the same passion and have the same pride in ourselves every time.”
