CHARLTON boss Chris Powell will give trialist Adamo Coulibaly another run out after the striker impressed during last night’s friendly with AFC Wimbledon.

Danny Green scored for the Addicks in the 1-1 draw with the Dons at the Cherry Red Stadium to maintain the Reds’ unbeaten pre-season recford.

French-born striker Coulibaly, who scored 29 goals for Hungarian Premier League club Debrecen last season, created a couple of chances for himself, as well as hitting the woodwork early on.

After being given more than an hour to stake a claim, Powell was suitably impressed afterwards.

The SE7 manager said: “He acquitted himself really well.

“He looked quick and a goal threat and I think as he gets fitter over a period of time training with us we’ll see an even sharper player.

“We’ll give him a few more minutes at Portsmouth.

“He’s someone who’s come across our network over the last 12 to 18 months.”

Powell added: “He’s scored a lot of goals in Hungary, and that level is not bad.

“We just felt it was right to bring him in, I’ve seen DVDs of him, obviously I’ve seen him in training and now in a match situation.

“I think if he gets more game time, more minutes and more training, we’ll see a player that will cause problems in the Championship.

“He’s show a lot of promise and it’s a shame he didn’t score.

“But a mark of any centre forward is to get in those positions and he got in them time and time again.”

As preparations for the 2013/14 season continue, it looks increasingly likely the Addicks will have to take on the Championship with largely the same squad which finished in ninth place last term.

And the Valley boss admits his squad may face an uphill struggle to improve on the success of their previous campaign.

Powell said: “My squad is light, I trust them but they’re going to have to pull out the stops like they did last year.

“No doubt we over-exceeded expectations and I think everyone will be looking for us to push on from there.

“I’ve got a feeling that it won’t be that easy. I want to be buoyant but I’m realistic.

“I’m trying my best to get people in that will affect us and affect the Championship.

“There’s plenty of people who get put my way but they have to be ready for the rigours of 46 games.

“It’s not an easy league and it’s been made even more difficult by teams like Reading and QPR still having a Premier League budget.

“But don’t be fooled, we will be going for it again.”

Next up for Powell’s men is a trip to the south coast to take on Portsmouth on Saturday.
