COLFE’S School in Lee has been chosen by Kent CC to be one of its bases.
The decision establishes Colfe’s as the premier centre for Kent cricket development in the north of the county.
In November and December, Kent will run coaching and trials sessions at Colfe’s, after which they will use the school’s indoor facilities, nets and pitches to help select and develop county age group squads.
Head of cricket at Colfe’s, and former head coach of Surrey CCC, Graham Clinton said: “We hope this is the beginning of a long and exciting partnership with Kent.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for us and will give Colfeian’s a unique chance to see what is needed to be a top class cricketer.”
Boys are nominated for the trials by district development officers covering Greenwich, Bromley, Bexley, Lewisham, Sevenoaks, Dartford and Gravesend.
Coaching for the boys aged 11 to 16 will run over four weeks, followed by two weeks of assessment sessions.
Kent already has its main centre in Canterbury but Colfe’s will be the important other base for the metropolitan area.
Chairman of the county’s high performance committee David Turner added: “Colfe’s has been extremely helpful in enabling Kent to use its excellent facilities for the county age group squads and we are looking forward to developing the partnership further in the future.
“The best players need the best facilities and few places in the area can match Colfe’s for this.”
