HARTLEY are the 2011 Kent Cricket League Premier Division champions after Saturday’s big clash with title rivals Bromley was scuppered by heavy rain.
Bromley could have closed the gap to two points with one game to play had they won but the elements intervened with Hartley at the crease on 42-1 after just nine overs had been played.
One of the few sides which managed to complete a game in this weekend was Bexley in their clash against Sevenoaks Vine.
The game was restricted to 25 overs a side and it was Bexley who were put into bat first by their opponents.
Jack Bell (42no) led the way with the bat as Bexley posted a creditable target of 112-5.
Things looked promising for Bexley when Sevenoaks opener John Bowden (4) was caught by Jack Potter off Jason Benn’s delivery to leave the hosts struggling on 5-1.
Joe Russell (3-24) then claimed a hat-trick of wickets to leave the home side seemingly up against it on 52-3.
Vines’ Oliver Howick (23) pushed his side up to 86-6 and there was nothing Bexley’s bowlers could do to dislodge Karl Pearson (19no) and Michael Barber as Sevenoaks (116-6) wrapped up what had at one stage appeared an unlikely win with two overs to spare.
