GREENWICH girls’ team claimed bronze as losing semi-finalists at the indoor cricket finals of the London Youth Games at Lord’s on Saturday.
They won their quarter-final against Brent, but lost out in a nail-biting last four clash with close rivals Bexley, who went on to win the final.
Greenwich manager Len Sales said: “Last year we lost out, so it was great for the girls to have got this far.
“The standard of girls’ cricket is getting higher and higher and so is the level of competition. They will have learnt from the experience.”
He added: “It was great for them to get an opportunity to play at Lord’s, take a tour of the ground and to meet England player Claire Taylor.
“It was all get them motivated for next year.
“The number of girls wanting to take part has grown greatly and the level of talent started off with 15 girls and now we are well over double that.”
