Eltham 185-4 (Holcombe 59, Speller 55)

Borden Grammar 122-6 (Robertson 2-13, Speller 2-26)

ELTHAM College won the under-15s Kent Cup, beating Borden Grammar School by 63 runs.

Eltham won the toss and batted on a fantastic track at Upchurch CC.

They were on the front foot from the off and Borden’s opening bowlers were well and truly seen off with the score at 48-0 after only four overs.

Eltham maintained this run rate despite losing the wickets of Noir Gordon and Jack Robertson.

Charlie Speller controlled the innings incredibly well, scoring regularly and reaching 55 in total.

Moreover, it was his sensible and controlled innings which allowed Will Holcombe the freedom to plunder 59 off 33 balls, including a colossal six.

With the score set at 186 for Borden to win, Eltham fancied their chances of defending the total.

This was further reinforced by the bowling attack which stunned the Borden batsmen.

After 10 overs, the score was 47-1 and the game as good as over.

A late resurgence saw Borden reach 122-6 but the result was never really in doubt.

Eltham College will now represent Kent in the regional rounds of the national competition, where they face Essex champions Felstead.
