Bromley eased their relegation fears with a superb six wicket victory over high-flyers Blackheath in the Kent Cricket League Premier Division on Saturday.

Hosts Bromley were just four points above the drop zone before the weekend having recorded only one outright win in their opening five fixtures .

But this triumph, inspired by Imran Qayyum and Freddie Wilson, saw the Bears jump to seventh position.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Blackheath reached 26-0 before Qayyum (4-33) turned the game in the hosts’ favour.

The Kent academy spinner dismissed three of the opposition’s top four batsmen including Tanweer Sikandar, the division’s leading run-scorer, as Blackheath stumbled to 65-6.

Duncan Willetts (34) and James Kirkham (27) provided brief resistance but a costly run out led to a second collapse with Blackheath bowled out for just 150 within 44 overs.

In reply Blackheath seamer Jahid Ahmed took three wickets to peg Bromley back to 65-3, but Miguel Barbosa (41) and Wilson (40no) combined well in an 83-run partnership to see the hosts over the line with six wickets remaining.

Hartley (335-5) toppled Blackheath at the top of the table by claiming a winning draw in a high-scoring thriller against Beckenham (331-6).

Defending champions Hartley were sent in to bat at their home ground and quickly established a dominant position with Kent batsman Joe Denly (93) showing his class.

The 29-year-old struck 12 boundaries during a fantastic stand of 126 with Nick Hendrie (55) before the former England international fell seven runs short of a century.

With the platform set middle-order batsmen James Thompson (42 off 29 balls) and Scott McKechnie (52no) propelled Hartley to 335 from their allotted 55 overs.

The daunting chase started poorly when opener Chris Isles was dismissed by Andrew Tutt (1-25), although William MacVicar (63) set about rebuilding the Beckenham innings.

Kent hitter Alex Blake briefly threatened to go big only to fall for a quick-fire 42, which included four maximums, but Raza Ali Dar (83) smashed 15 boundaries to regain hope for the visitors.

Ali Dar received brilliant support from Oliver Howick (66), although both fell at critical stages, allowing Hartley to register a tense winning draw with just four runs separating the teams.

Bexley (212-9) went down to a disappointing five-wicket loss at Folkestone (213-5).

The visitors were immediately on the back foot as James Sprang (3-26) dismissed both openers.

George Wells (40) and George Haley (54) both batted fluently, but neither could push on as Folkestone restricted Bexley to 212.

In reply Himanshu Waingarkar (51) and Kent veteran Darren Stevens (44) contributed with solid knocks.

And despite a fine spell from spinner Adeel Malik (3-63), the hosts secured the chase with 17 balls remaining.
