Joe Denly and Sam Northeast led Kent’s assault on a victory target of 241 on the final morning of the LV=County Championship match against Gloucestershire at Bristol.
The hosts were bowled out for 282 in their second innings by the opening ball of the day, which saw last man Matt Taylor clip a catch to mid-wicket off Ivan Thomas, who finished with four for 53.
Kent slipped to 35 for two as Daniel Bell-Drummond (3) and Brendan Nash (25) fell to Craig Miles and Liam Norwell respectively by the end of the 12th over.
But Denly and skipper Northeast then capitalised on the bright sunshine to add 50 by lunch as the shine went off the ball.
Denly needed a few moments of fortune in moving to 29, but also produced some fine shots, while Northeast (23 not out) provided solid support to make Kent favourites at the interva on 85 for two, requiring a further 156.
